"Tofinou barely exists. Just a breeze , a spirit, a comma, a dream. All the essential beauty of minimum control. The philosophy of French quality and of craftsman’s work. Absolute elegance, the timeless Navy dreams. If we could participate, specify, enhance by a last stroke of polishing this elegant intelligence, we are humbly proud ."
Philippe Starck and Thierry Gaugain
Launched in 2009, the 12M (39ft) is a weekender in the bloodline of the 7M, 8M, 9.5M models, but celebrated French designer Philippe Starck’s showpiece take on this, is very much a daysailer, with the majority of the four-berth interior converted into a leather-clad and cushioned den-something you’d expect James Bond to end up in with his female conquest as the credits roll.
All fitting are to Starck’s design and he has made room for a heads and gallery either side of the companionway. A bit of natural light wouldn’t go amiss, but there’s no doubt the interior is exuberant.
This aside, it’s her high gloss mahogany combined with clean, bare teak decks that translate to real nostalgic luxury. Sit at one of those helm stationswith a cushioned backrest and one hand on the leather-covered wheel and you’d feel like Bond himself.
